I fear change because I'm afraid of losing myself — what do I do?

Direct answer

What you fear is often not change itself, but the worry: if my work, my relationships, my body, and my views all change, what is left of "me"? Sheng's answer is not to help you find a personality core that never changes, but to place the root deeper: you have never been one fixed manifestation in one square; you are that life which is still becoming and can still give birth to responses within change.

Further explanation

This separates "staying the same" from "staying yourself." True continuity does not necessarily come from not changing; it may come from your still being able to keep becoming within each change.

Conclusions that must not be drawn

Do not therefore belittle the real losses that change brings, and do not demand that a person stay calm about every change.
