1. Person Overview
One-line placement: Krishnamurti withdraws sectarian authority, the accumulation of method, psychological time and the independent observer, yet still connects “actually seeing the psychological division between the observer and the observed” with the ending of conflict.
With The Core of the Teachings Z-01 stripped away, the complete talks of Madras 1967, New Delhi 1970 and Ojai 1978 still independently support that actual insight bears load in the psychological freedom he stipulates (E-10, E-19, E-20). Currently judged ②「Direct Seeing of the Ground」 (B); neither of ①’s two conditions — positive self-inclusion and the deletion of cognition — has been sufficiently proved.
Most distinctive feature: cancelling the observer as a psychological entity does not cancel observerless insight. The author refuses to train insight into a reproducible method, yet his direct talks still explain psychological freedom by “seeing — the ending of division”; “choiceless awareness” and “insight” must be distinguished, and not all awareness is automatically treated as a non-deletable condition of completion.
Final load-bearing point (in brief): the independent psychological observer, authority that can organize truth, and the cumulative road of achievement have been withdrawn. The main function retained after the deletion test is the relation between “actually seeing that the observer and the observed are not two” and the ending of psychological conflict; choiceless awareness can describe the quality of non-coercive observation and is not automatically a further independent necessary condition. The break occurs at the structural layer of psychological freedom; no permanent knower is needed.
Most delicate point: does “the observer is the observed” cancel the observer as an entity, or does it also cancel the function of insight into psychological division? The complete talks of 1967, 1970 and 1978 directly connect actual insight with the ending of conflict; the T2 self-commentary of the author states his intention, but is not independent load-bearing evidence.
Textual boundary: this archive rests on explicitly listed primary texts, transmitted texts and verifiable electronic material; variant readings, version history or second-by-second collation with audio-visual recordings not yet covered are delimited in the source notes, and unchecked parts are not used to support definite conclusions.
2. Reading Note|Grades of Evidence and Judgment
This archive strictly distinguishes “textual reliability” from “strength of structural judgment”. T1–T4 indicate the date, authorial attribution, stability of transmission or representativeness of a text; A–D indicate the degree of certainty of judgments made on the basis of the text. A = stated directly in the original; B = a strong structural inference supported by several original passages; C = grounded, but with an equally reasonable alternative reading;
D = an opposing stress test / a hypothesis awaiting verification. An A-grade original only proves that “the text really says this”, and does not automatically raise a philosophical inference about it to A.
Direction marks: support = supports the current six-position judgment; limit = shows a link that still carries a mediating function, or a boundary of the current judgment; disputed = the direction of the text is not unique; neutral = the text exists but does not for now constitute a core limit in the deletion test. The main text does not score; the old summary table serves only as a hypothesis awaiting verification.
3. Textual Scope and Method
T1 = complete verbatim foundation transcripts of Krishnamurti’s talks / dialogues with place, date and session; second-by-second audio collation has not been completed. T2 = foundation editorial compilations and the author’s self-commentary Z-01, The Core of the Teachings. The Krishnamurti Foundation of America notes that in 1974 Mary Lutyens asked the author to summarize his teachings, and the published text is signed “London, October 21, 1980”; the former is the date of the request, the latter the date of the text, and the two are not conflated as the same day.
The independent T1 talks of 1967, 1970 and 1978 provide the main evidence for the relation of insight and the ending of conflict. T3 = items whose authorial attribution or excerpt context is unclear; T4 = later summaries.
This archive uses only one measure: the ultimacy of thought, that is, “what non-deletable functional mediation remains in the final structure”. For ① / ② the complete ultimate structure is examined rather than a single snapshot of the endpoint, and it is also asked whether the proposing, speaking and understanding of thought itself can be brought within its own account. For ③ / ④ the main task of the thought and its core relations are primary, and the test of doctrines of liberation is not forcibly transplanted.
4. Core Question and Structural Chain of Thought
Core question: does “the observer is the observed” cancel the observer as an entity, or does it also cancel the function of insight into psychological division? The complete talks of 1967, 1970 and 1978 directly connect actual insight with the ending of conflict; the T2 self-commentary of the author states his intention, but is not independent load-bearing evidence.
1. The dissolution of the Order of the Star in 1929: the teaching cannot be institutionalized as the one road to truth (E-01, 02).
2. Human consciousness forms a self-centre out of memory, knowledge, images and psychological time (E-03, 05, 12).
3. The division between observer and observed is not real; the observer itself is made of thought and images (E-07, 12).
4. Choiceless awareness and timeless insight interrupt conflict, accompanied by a fundamental psychological transformation (E-04, 06, 08, 10, 11, 18).
5. Language, thought, relationship and action continue to exist, but must operate within their proper scope (E-13, 14, 16).
5. Original-Text Evidence Base
This archive strictly distinguishes “textual reliability” from “strength of structural judgment”. T1–T4 indicate the date, authorial attribution, stability of transmission or representativeness of a text; A–D indicate the degree of certainty of judgments made on the basis of the text. A = stated directly in the original; B = a strong structural inference supported by several original passages;
C = grounded, but with an equally reasonable alternative reading; D = an opposing stress test / a hypothesis awaiting verification.
[Retrieval standard] Each entry in this section gives an explicit textual location; the “original excerpt” and the following “rendering / gloss” are strictly distinguished. A applies only where the text really says so in that medium; structural inferences are graded separately B/C/D. The electronic texts have been located, but collation against all facsimile base texts and critical editions has not been completed.
Original excerpt: Truth is a pathless land.
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): Truth cannot be monopolized by any religion, sect or organized route; the speech at the same time actually dissolved the organization headed by him.
What the passage does: Religious authority is not a necessary mediator for realizing freedom; the speech is treated as practical evidence against authority.
What it does not prove: Rejecting organization is not the same as cancelling every function of insight.
E-02|1929: truth must not be organized
Original excerpt: Truth cannot be organized.
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): Organizing belief turns living enquiry into fixed doctrine; this at the same time constrains his own possibility of founding a sect.
What the passage does: It constitutes a self-reflexivity of thought: his own speech cannot be turned into an institution that must be obeyed.
What it does not prove: Self-reflexivity is not yet a positive account of how speech stands within the whole.
E-03|Observation takes place in the mirror of relationship
Original excerpt: mirror of relationship
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): The core self-commentary explains human transformation through everyday relationship, the content of consciousness and its observation, not through philosophical knowledge or psychological technique.
What the passage does: The author’s intention explicitly opposes methodism.
What it does not prove: The author’s self-commentary must be read with the T1 talks and does not independently decide the position.
E-04|Freedom is not choice
Original excerpt: choiceless awareness
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): Freedom is not choosing among options, but appears in choiceless awareness of everyday existence.
What the passage does: Choiceless awareness may still be an important function in the stipulation of the end.
What it does not prove: One cannot infer “no cognitive load” from “it is not choice”.
E-05|Thought is psychological time
Original excerpt: Thought is time.
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): Thought arises from memory, experience and knowledge, and continues the past through the psychological “will become in the future”.
What the passage does: It shows that gradual techniques for obtaining freedom through time cannot serve as the ultimate relation.
What it does not prove: It does not deny the instrumental role of engineering, language and everyday memory.
E-06|Pure observation and insight bring about mutation
Original excerpt: timeless insight
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): The author explicitly assigns the division of observer and observed, once seen, to illusion, and connects seeing it with pure observation, insight and a fundamental mutation of the mind.
What the passage does: Z-01 is used as the author’s systematic self-commentary on the structure “insight — mutation”, but its T2 status does not independently carry the six-position placement; T1 can be read independently against the Madras talk of 1967, the New Delhi talk of 1970 and the Ojai talk of 1978.
What it does not prove: Although this entry is reliable self-commentary by the author, it cannot alone prove the structure; the externally verified T1 “if one sees that there is no division, conflict ends” is the main load-bearing evidence, and whether insight must equal a “mutation” is left open to avoid excessive conceptual identification.
E-07|The observer is not a substantial subject
Original excerpt: the observer is the observed
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): The author points out that the observer too is an image in consciousness made of memory, evaluation and images, not an eternal master independent of what is observed.
What the passage does: It dismantles the subject–object division and the “higher self” as saviour.
What it does not prove: The excerpts in this book were edited and selected; the sentences do not independently prove the conditions of the end.
E-08|When the division is seen, conflict ends
Original excerpt: conflict ceases
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): When the observer recognizes that he is not different from the image observed, the psychological conflict of suppression and reform stops, and attention of a different quality appears.
What the passage does: Recognizing is not an external substantial act, but “when… then…” still forms a condition of transformation.
What it does not prove: The relation of attention to the end needs to be cross-checked with the direct talks.
E-09|Meditation is not the observer watching
Original excerpt: neither the observer nor the observed
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): Meditation is explained as the ending of the division of observer / observed made by thought and of its conflict.
What the passage does: There is no static watcher, nor another highest subject controlling observation.
What it does not prove: One cannot claim, merely on the basis of “there is no observer”, that the function of insight can be deleted.
E-10|After insight there is no more conflict
Original excerpt: insight into the observer
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): The talk connects insight into the observer with the ending of conflict, and at the same time asks whether it is possible to observe oneself without the observer.
What the passage does: The same talk explicitly connects insight into the observer with conflict no longer arising, a T1 structural witness independent of Z-01; the “insight” in it is not an independent permanent subject.
What it does not prove: One must still distinguish ultimate experience from the existence of “the ground itself”.
E-11|Insight in timelessness
Original excerpt: observe without time
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): Insight is explained as seeing or listening without psychological time and without the division of observer / observed, and this insight is said to reveal the content of consciousness.
What the passage does: It is not gradual cultivation, but it has not deleted the function of seeing.
What it does not prove: One should not equate all perception wholesale with subject–object dual cognition.
E-12|Thought produces the thinker
Original excerpt: thought breeds the thinker
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): The thinker is produced by thought; the time gap of projecting the future from the past produces conflict.
What the passage does: It cancels the ontological priority of an independent cognitive subject.
What it does not prove: The specific mechanism of psychological conflict cannot be automatically generalized to every structure of existence.
E-13|Language can communicate but cannot replace the fact
Original excerpt: description is not the described
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): The author says that verbal communication still needs thought and stored words; the description is not the described.
What the passage does: Self-reflexivity — the description is not the fact; knowledge, thought and communication have limited uses; this is not sufficient proof that this present speech and understanding are positively incorporated into a more basic whole.
What it does not prove: The self-reflexivity about the limits of speech cannot be taken as the positive self-inclusion that ① requires; there is another candidate reading, “thought and speech both belong to psychological activity”, but it still needs cross-text structural proof.
E-14|True action must face the actual
Original excerpt: what is
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): It distinguishes the idea from the actual, stressing facing the actual directly rather than remaining in belief or abstract explanation.
What the passage does: It shows a return to life, action and relationship, not a permanent withdrawal from the world of experience.
What it does not prove: An invitation addressed to the reader cannot by itself be taken as a structural definition.
E-15|Complete attention contains no observer
Original excerpt: complete attention
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): In complete attention, the “I” as psychological centre and the observer no longer stand outside the attention.
What the passage does: It can be interpreted as observation needing no further watcher, while attention still takes place.
What it does not prove: Whether attention constitutes the definition of the end must be read with “insight brings about mutation”.
E-16|Knowledge has its proper place
Original excerpt: right place
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): The author limits thought from usurping the whole, but still acknowledges that verbal expression and actual technical action cannot do without thought.
What the passage does: It is not a simple denial of knowledge or language; thought itself as an activity falls within the scope of explanation.
What it does not prove: “Having its place” is not the same as all movements of thought having become non-cognitive.
E-17|The teaching may not become an authority to be obeyed
Original excerpt: no authority
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): Enquiry cannot take the speaker as an authority, but requires a free examination of actual psychological workings.
What the passage does: The author self-reflexively limits his own teaching.
What it does not prove: Anti-authoritarianism is not proof that no insight is needed.
E-18|The transformation of the mind is not an accumulation in time
Original excerpt: radical mutation
Gloss (this archive’s rendering, not the original): The author directly links insight without the shadow of the past with a fundamental transformation of consciousness.
What the passage does: The functional relation of cognition to completion is highly prominent in the whole thought.
What it does not prove: It is the author’s self-commentary and still needs systematic collation with the late collected works and specific talks.
E-19|Madras 1967: recognizing the identity of the observer and the ending of conflict
Original excerpt: if it is not different, then the conflict comes to an end
Gloss (rendering): The talk states that the observer is not really different from the anger and thought he observes;
if this separation no longer holds, conflict ends.
What the passage does: The same talk at the same time opposes treating “the observer is the observed” as a mere idea and demands actual observation; it does not merely offer an abstract theory of psychological entities.
What it does not prove: There being no static observer does not mean that the function of insight can be deleted; but neither does it mean that there is a permanent subject that is watching.
E-20|New Delhi 1970: actually seeing that there is no division, conflict ends
Original excerpt: If you see that without the division, conflict comes to an end.
Gloss (rendering): The observer and his jealousy, violence and anger are not two psychological entities; when this non-division is actually seen, conflict ends.
What the passage does: It explicitly places “actually seeing” and “the ending of conflict” in the same account of completion, and denies that analysis, conclusions and accumulation in time alone can bring about fundamental change.
What it does not prove: That seeing itself is an independent entity or a permanent act; nor does it prove that all forms of choiceless awareness must be treated as technical means.
6. Glossary of Key Terms
truth: not an organizable object that a sect can monopolize;
not automatically equal to some substantial ontological ground.
observer: the watching centre made by psychological memory and evaluation, not automatically equal to every act of perception.
observed: objects, inner emotions or images; their division from the observer is the source of conflict.
insight: seeing without accumulation in time, related to fundamental psychological transformation; the main load-bearing point of the test.
choiceless awareness: a state of attention that neither suppresses nor seeks preference; not a trained technique.
thought: the temporal activity of experience, memory and knowledge; it has proper uses in technology and language.
psychological time: the psychological structure of “becoming, from the present, the ideal self of the future”.
attention: complete awareness without a centre; not to be lightly identified with a fixed knower.
7. The Place of the Ground: Where Krishnamurti Ultimately Places the Ground
He does not treat truth as an object of knowledge, a doctrine a sect can possess, or a place that can be reached in the future by technique; his positive wording about the whole falls mainly on living relationship, the movement of consciousness and observation without a centre. A more cautious statement is that this is an overall account of freedom, truth and present psychological reality, not a complete cosmogony.
Positive: E-01, E-05, E-12 and E-13 distinguish truth from human organization, psychological time and the technique of language. Limits: there is no systematic ontology of how all beings arise, and “psychological transformation” cannot be raised into a complete argument about how all things exist. Dispute: whether “pure observation” can be used as the definition of the highest structure, or only as a way of opening up the facts. Current judgment B/C: the domain of the investigation of freedom can be determined; a metaphysical object is not forcibly constructed.
Four statements|Positive evidence: see the E cards listed in this section; limiting evidence: the texts are insufficient to prove a metaphysical system beyond their own theme;
disputed reading: there are different ways of reconstructing the final structure; the safest present conclusion: only the stipulations of the ground already cross-attested are recognized, and the rest is kept at C.
8. Structural Endpoint and Final Load-Bearing Point (Deletion Test)
Already withdrawn: sectarian authority, fixed methods of practice, accumulation in psychological time, the independent psychological observer and its coercive control. Strictly delete one function — “actual insight into the division”: what remains is the fundamental fact, the description of the mechanism of the observer and non-methodism, but the account of completion from division to the ending of conflict is pulled out. The T1 talks of 1970 and 1978 both connect the two, so the break lies at the structural layer of “psychological liberation”; deleting “choiceless awareness” as an independent technique produces a gap only at the layer of expression / possible path description, which is not enough to decide the main class.
Strict deletion test: delete only “actual insight into the fact that the observer is the observed”, keeping the fact itself, everyday perception, language and the non-cumulative principle.
(1) Retained: truth is not created by organization, the psychological observer belongs to thought, conflict arises from division. (2) Broken: the original texts explain the stopping of conflict by actually seeing this relation; pull it out and the concrete chain of completion of liberation cannot hold (T1 Madras 1967, New Delhi 1970 and Ojai 1978). Level of the break = structural layer, not a permanent “final knower”. Counter-reading: insight is only an occurrence not fabricated by a subject; this can exclude the substantialization of method, but cannot yet prove that its transforming role can be deleted from the whole.
Already withdrawn / de-substantialized: already withdrawn: sectarian authority, the route from method to truth, the gradual ideal of psychological time, the independent observer, the self-centre as final controller.
Core structural load-bearing point: insight that the observer and the observed both belong to psychological activity, and the ending of conflict that occurs from it; “choiceless awareness” is listed separately as a non-methodical quality of observation, and is not automatically set as an additional structural condition.
Disputed functional load-bearing point: does “the observer is the observed” cancel the observer as an entity, or does it also cancel the function of insight into psychological division? The complete talks of 1967, 1970 and 1978 directly connect actual insight with the ending of conflict; the T2 self-commentary of the author states his intention, but is not independent load-bearing evidence.
Nature of the load-bearing point: not “this word is important”, but that deleting it would break the overall relation stipulated by the author himself.
What still holds after deletion: the ground layer should not be confused with how a person rightly cognizes or understands the ground; see the main text of the deletion test.
Where it breaks after deletion: once “right insight into psychological division” is deleted, the thought’s judgments that truth cannot be organized and that the observer is a product of thought can still be stated; but the chain of how one passes from continuing conflict into actual freedom, and why the transformation happens, loses its key connection (E-10, E-19, E-20; Z-01’s E-06 serves only as corroboration of intention). The break is not only at the layer of teaching or path, but touches his own stipulation of the completion of psychological freedom.
Conversely, once “the independent and eternal observer” is deleted, the structure still holds, and is more faithful to the primary texts.
Level of the break: deleting the function of insight = structural layer (T1 supports B); deleting choiceless awareness if it is only an observational attitude / entry wording = layer of expression or path (C); deleting the substantial observer = no break; no permanent final cognitive act is asserted.
Status in the complete ultimate structure: the object is the whole structure of argument established by the texts, not merely a static snapshot of the endpoint.
Mode of existence after completion (if relevant): it is forbidden to infer from “no static knower” that “the cognitive function has been deleted from the complete structure”.
The place of thought itself: see Section 9; self-reflexivity ≠ self-inclusion.
Return: testing whether the thought can account anew for the everyday life, action, ethics or cosmic differences it concerns.
Another reasonable reading: does “the observer is the observed” cancel the observer as an entity, or does it also cancel the function of insight into psychological division? The complete talks of 1967, 1970 and 1978 directly connect actual insight with the ending of conflict; the T2 self-commentary of the author states his intention, but is not independent load-bearing evidence.
Safest present boundary: ②「Direct Seeing of the Ground」 (B; supported by the T1 talks, not by Z-01 alone; local self-inclusion still C)
Grade of judgment: B for “the relation of insight and the ending of conflict bears load in complete psychological freedom” (multiple independent T1 cross-attestations); C is kept for the metaphysical status of insight and for the self-inclusion of the whole thought.
9. The Place of Thought Itself: Self-Reflexivity and Self-Inclusion
Self-reflexivity: dissolving the organization and refusing to let thought become authority, pointing out that the description is not the fact described (E-01, 02, 13, 17). Self-inclusion: there are local candidates for an internal description of how thought and speech arise from memory and shared psychological conditions (E-12, 16);
but “language has uses” and “do not obey me” cannot alone prove that this present proposing, speaking and understanding of his own have been positively placed into a more basic whole. ①’s first threshold is not passed at present; it may not be made up by self-reflexivity.
Positive and limiting evidence must be examined together. Even if a work criticizes its own most important concepts, “withdrawing a concept” cannot be taken without argument as a positive explanation of “how this speech occurs within the whole”. The safest present judgment is to acknowledge the existing facts of self-reflexivity, and to keep an appropriate B/C boundary on how far self-inclusion can be pushed.
10. The Most Delicate Point of This Figure
Does “the observer is the observed” cancel the observer as an entity, or does it also cancel the function of insight into psychological division? The complete talks of 1967, 1970 and 1978 directly connect actual insight with the ending of conflict; the T2 self-commentary of the author states his intention, but is not independent load-bearing evidence.
The deletion test in this section may not be changed into asking “whether the author ever used words such as seeing, knowing, awakening, attaining, Logos”; it must keep one counterfactual: remove the functional relation in question completely while keeping the other premises — where, then, can the ground, completion, speech and return to the world of the original thought no longer be accounted for? Equally reasonable counter-readings are kept in the text, and local C is not mechanically extended to the overall conclusion.
11. Six-Position Placement
Currently placed at ②, with evidential judgment B (as regards “insight bears load in the completion of psychological liberation”): the three T1 talks E-19 / E-20 / E-10 form independent cross-attestation, and Z-01 only establishes the author’s intention. “Without a centre, not made by a subject” is not the same as functional deletion; the condition of self-inclusion is still not passed, and ① is not a parallel conclusion of equal strength. Whether the author sets “truth” apart as an ontological ground from all empirical statements is listed separately as C.
Exclusion on the same scale: ⑥ Living in the World, ⑤ Experiencing the World, ④ Explaining the World, ③ Inquiring into the Ground, ② Direct Seeing of the Ground, ① The Occurring Itself — not ranked by the author’s reputation, and without assuming that non-duality or de-substantialization necessarily belongs to ①. The main class is derived from the chain of argument in Sections 7—10; it cannot be inherited from the old table.
12. Highest Achievement
He reduces the self-centre to the activity of thought itself, no longer letting an imagined inner observer be the judge of thought and conflict; and by refusing sects, methods and slogans he places his own teaching within the scope of criticism. What is unique is that the question of observation constrains at once psychological theory, the educational relationship and the speaker’s own position.
This section describes the distinctive work of the thought, not an evaluative praise of being “greater”; its achievement and the structural function that finally remains non-deletable can hold at the same time.
13. Strongest Objections and Replies
R-01|Has cancelling the observer sufficiently proved ①?
Question: Has cancelling the observer sufficiently proved ①?
Grounds: The material does cancel the independent observer, the psychological centre and the authority of technique; but the 1980 self-commentary and many talks connect insight with mutation.
Current reply: The cognitive subject being dismantled ≠ the function of insight being deleted; ② is taken as the main class with sufficient textual support, and ① still needs to prove both conditions, complete self-inclusion and functional deletion.
R-02|Is “pure observation” only the language of a path?
Question: Is “pure observation” only the language of a path?
Grounds: He does not treat “observation” as a trainable technique, yet he places choiceless awareness at the centre of his account of freedom and psychological change.
Current reply: Choiceless awareness, as a non-methodical quality of observation, is not necessarily an independent required path; and E-10, E-19 and E-20 all connect actually seeing non-division with the ending of conflict, so deleting insight damages the relation of completion of complete psychological freedom.
R-03|Is he only psychology, and so ④?
Question: Is he only psychology, and so ④?
Grounds: Much of his discourse points to fear, desire and social conflict; but he also asks about timelessness, truth, the immeasurable and how freedom is possible.
Current reply: The main task is not only to explain existing psychological phenomena; currently the relation of completion is held sufficient to support ②, and ① has no structural evidence of equal strength.
R-04|Does the author’s self-commentary override the original talks?
Question: Does the author’s self-commentary override the original talks?
Grounds: The 1980 summary is formal self-commentary by the author, and decades of talks cannot be unified retroactively on the strength of this one piece.
Current reply: A Z-01 stripping test has been done: In meditation… of 1978-04-16 explicitly connects insight into the observer with no conflict; the talks of New Delhi 1970-12-10 and Madras 1967-12-31 also state explicitly that when non-division is actually seen, conflict ends. The core evidence for B comes independently from T1, and Z-01 is kept as the author’s T2 self-commentary.
R-05|Is self-inclusion exaggerated?
Question: Is self-inclusion exaggerated?
Grounds: The speaker says explicitly that his own language is thought-made description and that the observer too is produced by thought; but he has no metaphysical systematic doctrine of how the whole of his speech occurs.
Current reply: This archive confirms that E-13 is a self-reflexivity of language and E-16 a stipulation of the scope of thought’s function; there is insufficient evidence to prove the complete self-inclusion required by ①, and one may not write “the first condition partly passes”.
14. Comparison with Neighbours
Compared with the Buddha (No.01): both face suffering and the liberation of the mind, but the Buddha’s seeing of the four truths as they are and his chain of realization have their own different terms and course in the early texts, and the two cannot fill each other’s gaps.
Compared with Nāgārjuna (No.02): both put pressure on a fixed subject and on attachment to language, but Nāgārjuna’s dependent origination / emptiness cannot be rewritten into a modern theory of attention. Similarities and differences with Ramana (No.33) and Nisargadatta (No.34) are only comparative hypotheses awaiting verification as long as the main texts of those two archives have not been checked.
15. Final Summary
The safest answer: sectarian authority, the ideal centre in psychological time and the independent observer are dismantled; the completing function “actual insight into the identity of observer and observed — the ending of conflict” cannot be deleted. Choiceless awareness is not forced to bear load together with insight. The limit of speech is self-reflexivity; complete self-inclusion has not been proved. Currently placed at ② (B), without treating the T2 self-commentary Z-01 independently as structural proof.
This archive’s judgment holds within the range covered by the present evidence; even where the main class has fairly strong reasons, unresolved questions of authorial attribution, variant readings and local functional readings are kept at C. Places that still have reasonable competing interpretations are explicitly kept at C; the conclusion may not in turn dictate the selection of original texts.

Limitations of the sources and version questions not covered:
1. The 1974 invitation to summarize and the 1980-10-21 date of The Core of the Teachings have each been checked against the foundation web pages; no further archival judgment has been made about the writing process
2. This archive takes the listed talks as evidence, and does not claim to have systematically covered all late counter-passages on insight / intelligence / attention
3. Some English verbatim transcripts have not yet been collated second by second with the same version of the audio-visual recordings; each excerpt is accompanied by the corresponding foundation page
Version statement: Chinese content v1.3 (2026-10-22);
the complete talks of 1967, 1970 and 1978 take the foundation transcripts as textual evidence, with the author’s self-commentary listed separately as T2. Some audio-visual recordings of talks have not yet been collated second by second with the transcripts in the same version, and are not used to strengthen inferences beyond the checked texts. If substantive errors in the original texts affecting the main class are found in future, the question should be re-examined.
