Being
In your moment of seeking the primordial power, longing for the self-nature to grow
Scripture
The source-spring is surging—nothing flows out, nothing flows in.
Hunger and thirst eat and drink—feeding being with being.
Though the umbilical cord is cut, the root system is unchanged.
The mother body abides, thus; the self-nature gives birth to its veins.
Wenzi · On Being
You feel a hunger at the root—an impulse to be filled, to be wrapped. Like a fetus curling, searching for that umbilical cord long since cut. You search everywhere for a mother—hometown, lover, faith, career—thirsting to suck strength from there, so that the life belonging to you can bloom.
At the very instant this hunger gnaws your insides, the scripture surges out like milk: “The source-spring is surging—nothing flows out, nothing flows in.” Stop searching.
Withdraw the thirsty tip of your tongue from every outer breast.
Then press it against the roof of your own mouth. Feel.
Feel that warmth surging from the deepest place of your life—the rhythm of the heartbeat, the tide of the breath, the hum of the cells’ metabolism.
This surging does not need to “enter” you from outside, nor will it be lost by “going out” of you. It is your life-activity itself.
You are in this surging—you are this surging. It has never left; it is the womb you carry with you.
Then the scripture reveals the perfection of this inner feeding: “Hunger and thirst eat and drink—feeding being with being.” Your hunger, and the food that satisfies it, look like two ends, but are in fact one body. It is not that there is first a hollow, and then something from outside fills it.
It is life-energy itself, circulating, transforming, completing itself. “Being feeding being”—it is that “existence” which feels hunger, feeding that “existence” which seeks satisfaction; it is one life, nursing itself.
The act of feeding is happening—you are both the source and the destination.
Then the scripture gently severs the imagined umbilical cord: “Though the umbilical cord is cut, the root system is unchanged.” The fleshly connection may be cut, but the link to the source of life was never severed. The “leaving the mother” you believed in was only a formal independence; your root system has long been planted deep in the boundless soil of existence itself.
You are not rootless duckweed—you have always been connected to the whole earth.
At last, that confirmation blooms like a flower: “The mother body abides, thus; the self-nature gives birth to its veins.” That thus-abiding mother body which gestates all that is has never left. And the unique veins of your life are exactly the new branch this mother body is growing right now.
You long to draw strength from the mother body so that you may bloom—never noticing that this very impulse to bloom is the most primal, most surging strength the mother body has given you.
Your life is the flowing and manifesting of motherhood itself.
Now, withdraw the hand that begs everywhere.
What nourishes you is your own surging; what embraces you is the completeness of your existence; the strength that grows you is the life-vein, self-sufficient within you.
You have not returned to the mother body—you have always been breathing, growing, becoming, as a living part of it.
Being-Mother is not finding an outer support—it is discovering: the maternal embrace you seek is the boundless generosity of your own existence.
And that generosity is happening right now.
