Being

In your moment of facing the stacking of the unknown, when nothing has yet settled

Scripture

Green duckweed at the wind’s end; the thunder’s heart in the cloud’s core.

Momentum is surging, gathering; the measure of the yet-unformed.

Neither mixed nor disordered—it is the plan of pregnancy.

Chaos is like an egg—who is chiseling at its side?

Wenzi · On Being

You are stuck. Not between a rock and a hard place—up, down, left, right: every direction is filled with the same milky-white, sound-absorbing velvet. Your gaze has no focus, your breath no echo, even your body’s sense of weight is fading. This is not a predicament; it is the dilution of the sense of existence.

In this weightless silence, the grain of one fact surfaces of itself: “Green duckweed at the wind’s end; the thunder’s heart in the cloud’s core.” Move your attention gently away from the panic of “finding no direction.”

Move it to the finest place. To that almost imperceptible tremor at the tip of your little finger. To the depths of your chest, where a nameless energy is silently compressing.

The chaos you perceive is not dead stillness. It is “momentum surging, gathering.” The confusion that panics you is the deep fetal movement of a new world adjusting its position in the womb. Your whole body and mind resonate in this soundless roar.

Then the judgment is turned completely around: “Neither mixed nor disordered—it is the plan of pregnancy.” This is not disorder. This is the universe’s highest strategy of gestation. You cannot see, because the myriad things are, in this warm darkness, seeking each other, joining, taking shape. This fog is the necessary bed of the “unformed,” out of which every “form” is born.

To reject chaos is to reject life’s most original creativity. Chaos itself is the creator at work.

Then a bolt of lightning splits your self-knowledge: “Chaos is like an egg—who is chiseling at its side?” This whole unsettled situation, together with the unease of being in it, forms one complete “cosmic egg” holding infinite life. And that restless “you,” wanting to analyze, plan, and break the status quo, is so much like the giant in the myth, axe in hand, impatient to crack the chaos open.

The scripture asks, coldly: who is it, standing at the edge of the shell, in a hurry to chisel it open? “Who is chiseling at its side?”

That word “is” nails your anxiety to the scene. You are not an innocent bystander. You are the very person who is restless, who is intervening, who is trying to use the chisel of “action” to break open the egg of “existence.” Your anxiety has become the harshest noise in the process of incubation.

Chaos is not a predicament you must fight or flee.

It is precisely the sacred womb in which you are being gestated.

What you must do is not to become the “creator” who chisels everything open.

It is to lay down the chisel, and become the egg.

Now, feel that impulse to “chisel open.” Then, as if loosening a scalding stone, loosen it inwardly. Let your whole existence press softly against the inner wall of the shell.

Trust this warm darkness wrapping you. Trust that in the silence, fibers you cannot see are weaving with precision. Draw your whole attention back from the fantasy of “outside the shell,” to the steady, gestating pulse “inside the shell.”

Being-Chaos is dwelling in fetal breath.

You are not a lost traveler; you are a newborn possibility, deeply wrapped and quietly incubated by the universe.

And that unease stirring in you is the most exact proof that the embryo is growing.
