## Common research question

**Is the Yijing only a manual for divination?**

The Yijing comprises hexagram and line statements alongside later commentarial layers such as the Ten Wings. It is not only a fortune-telling manual. Change, timing, position, response, number, and moral reflection acquire different emphases through reception history. Later systematic “yin-yang philosophy” must not be projected unchanged onto the earliest strata.

Distinguish core text, commentaries, and later exegesis; do not invent a single author.
