# Newton（Classical mechanics）

## Common research question

**What do Newton's laws of gravity explain?**

Newton’s Principia develops a mathematical account of universal gravitation using the laws of motion and astronomical evidence. That success does not by itself explain the ultimate physical mechanism of gravity. In the 1713 General Scholium he explicitly separates established gravitational behavior from an unestablished cause; classical mechanics also has a limited domain of applicability.

## Interpretive boundary

Separate predictive mathematical law from claims about ultimate metaphysical ground.
