# Turing（Computation）

## Common research question

**Why did Turing recast can machines think as the imitation game?**

In his 1950 paper, Turing reframed “Can machines think?” as an imitation game involving linguistic performance. This gives the debate a more operational form. Passing such a test does not by itself establish subjective experience, and it is not identical to every modern AI benchmark. The paper also considers specific objections.

## Interpretive boundary

Separate the 1950 paper from later simplifications; performance is not an automatic metaphysical conclusion.
