# Augustine（Christian theology）

## Common research question

**How does Augustine understand time and memory?**

Augustine's question “What is time?” arises from the puzzle that the past is gone, the future not yet, and the present hard to hold. Confessions examines memory, attention, and expectation in temporal experience. It is not a theory of physical spacetime, and Augustine's claims about grace and salvation require other texts.

## Interpretive boundary

Distinguish Confessions, works on grace, and City of God across development.
