# Eckhart（Christian mysticism）

## Common research question

**What does detachment mean for Meister Eckhart?**

In Meister Eckhart’s Sermon 52, inner poverty is explored through not willing, not knowing, and not possessing; this is not simply indifference to other people. The sermon also leaves questions about understanding, speech, and lived realization. The separate treatise On Detachment has disputed authorship and should not be given the same textual status as Sermon 52.

## Interpretive boundary

Attributions and condemnation history are complex; isolated quotations are insufficient.
