# Plato（Greek philosophy）

## Common research question

**What does Plato's allegory of the cave explain?**

Plato's cave allegory depicts education as a difficult reorientation from accepted appearances toward clearer understanding, and includes the responsibility to return to civic life. It does not merely claim that visible things do not exist. The image belongs with the Good, dialectic, and the wider argument of the Republic.

## Interpretive boundary

Do not merge every speaker in different dialogues into one undifferentiated doctrine.
