## Common research question

**What does unity of knowledge and action really mean?**

Wang Yangming's unity of knowledge and action challenges the separation of genuine moral understanding from conduct; it does not assert that memorizing a definition automatically accomplishes a deed. Innate knowing, realizing that knowing, and testing it in affairs interrelate. Letters, conversations, and later formulations show development.
